now, i will tell you that what nbc news is reporting and we can assume that nbc news and pete williams, the best in the business, have vetted this well, is that there have been solid leads that have been developed, and we know from our reporting and what we've seen here, that there is a swarm of law enforcement still over the scene of the attack, that took place 48 hours, still gathering evidence, including video evidence, including fragments of the explosive devices, and those will likely come in very handy. the internship that authorities and sources, law enforcement sources, i should say, are using with pete williams is solid leads. solid leads is a good thing, but it's a long way from an arrest. and the fbi has squarely knocked down those reports that arrests have been made. in fact, no arrests have been made. back to you. >> and no doubt we're going to be hearing a lot more from the fbi when their press conference starts, 5:00 p.m. eastern. scott, thank you very much for the fbi's statements so far. we'll take a very quick break and continue this story after this. making them work

they are telling nbc news that they have found numerous pieces of evidence that are being recovered, both from the watertown scene, which would include evidence of homemade explosives including pipe bombings. they found another pressure cooker, as well as more than 200 spent rounds. the cambridge site is now secure and is clear. they are saying they did not have to detonate that explosive device that they had alluded to earlier in the day. they made a big point of telling the press earlier that they were going to have to detonate an explosive device and not to misinterpret what that was. it that are now saying they did not have to do that. they thought that a car in that particular area of cambridge might have had an explosive in it, but it did not. and they did not want to comment any further on what they found there. so, we're beginning to see some of the evidence, or hear about some of the evidence that the authorities are found. and they've also found as many as seven improvilzed explosive devices between the watertown site and the cambridge site. maria and melissa, back to you.

i want to bring in now nbc news justice correspondent pete williams. pete, we're hearing a little bit more about who these people may be, that they may have recently come to the country. >> yeah, a little more i think is the operant term here. they're still waiting to positively identify them. these are not individuals that had wallets with their driver's licenses in them. so this is taking a while. but they believe that these two men came to the u.s. about a year ago and may have some overseas military experience. we're not positive where they came from. we don't have positive identification on them. i will say this, though. there's been a lot of speculation both on our facilities and elsewhere that one of these men, one of these suspects is a student that went missing from brown university in march. i'm told by several officials that that's not the case. that this is not one of those people. so let's just put that to rest too. i've heard other people talking about that tonight on our facilities and speculating about it. i'm told that is not the case.
